Portable Breathing Equipment (PBE) smoke hoods are a key component in the aircraft cabin emergency equipment carried aboard aircraft and familiarisation with donning and using the equipment is an important element in the training and recurrent training of flight attendants and crew.

The most common smoke hoods (depending on the location or specification of the individual airline, academy or college) are those manufactured by Avox Scott or Drager Aerospace. Like the original aircraft evacuation slides, the original equipment manufacturers have designed their emergency equipment for single use, in the event of a serious aircraft emergency however for training purposes, with multiple uses by multiple personnel, something a little more rugged is required.

As with our range of aircraft training slides and rafts, for everyday training purposes where crews and students are required to don, operate and remove smoke hoods cabincrewsafety.aero now offers a range of Drager and Scott training smoke hoods that have been designed to withstand arduous everyday use. Operating as the original equipment the cabincrewsafety.aero range of training smoke hoods are made from tough materials, are easily cleaned and repaired and have a range of replacement items to keep them operating and in service for as long as possible.

The training version of the smoke hoods can have key components removed for cleaning and sterilisation and feature removable neck seals in both standard latex and non-allergenic EDPM material.

Stocks of the original Drager PBE smoke hood and Scott PBE smoke hood are good for static demonstration (where they are not worn but used to demonstrate the item) however these items are one shot items and should not be worn once deployed. For active training, where crew are required to wear the smoke hoods, training versions are the only item recommended.

Spare parts and a sterilisation and repair service are offered by cabincrewsafety.aero for all of the training PBE smoke hoods. A Puritan Bennett version is also available as well as storage pouches and a training version of the storage box for the Drager PBE model.
