Improved training smoke hood neck seals
Representative cabin emergency training PBE are manufactured to be more durable than the original manufacturers smoke hoods, which are designed for once only emergency use. The training smoke hood replicates the original manufacturers neck seal, which is usually manufactured from latex as per the original manufacturers device.
However, the demands that repetitive use places on the training smoke hood can make the latex neck seal vulnerable to damage from nails, jewellery such as rings, earrings and necklaces and also repeated use over time.
It is for this reason that manufactured aircraft training smoke hoods feature replaceable neck seals, which are held firmly in place by Velcro but can be removed in seconds, replaced quickly and easily and the the crew member back in their training schedule with minimal disruption.
A small number of people can experience an allergic reaction to latex and Cabin Crew Safety has offered an alternative to the standard latex neck seal; a harder wearing non-allergenic neck seal version that is proven more resilient to the demands of cabin crew emergency training (meaning replacing less often and reduced training costs) and also eliminating the risk of any allergic reaction.
From July 2014 manufacturing of the replica training smoke hoods in all but one model will include the non-allergenic neck seal as standard (Part: 82000014). The latex neck seal (Part: 82000013) will still be available and is the same unit cost as the non-allergenic unit.
Representative Smoke Hoods/PBE for Crew Training
The specification of the following for crew emergency training smoke hoods will be changed from latex neck seals to non-allergenic neck seals:
- Part: 82000011 - Representative Drager style training smoke hood/PBE
- Part: 82000012 - Representative Scott style training smoke hood/PBE
- Part: 82000024 - Representative Puritan Bennett/BE Aeropsace style training smoke hood/PBE
- Part: 82000031 - Representative Essex training style smoke hood/PBE
The latex training smoke hood neck seal will still be available to training organisations requiring this material for accurate replication of the original smoke hoods carried onboard their aircraft.
Note: Air Liquide training smoke hood models
The remaining Air Liquide training smoke hood/PBE (Part: 82000017 ) is a not a manufactured representation but a modified OEM model and will not be affected by this design change. It is currently only available with a latex neck seal, which is unique to the Air Liquide model and not interchangeable with any other training smoke hood.
