Bright ideas for cabin crew training

While LED technology has been around since the early 1960's it has really become mainstream over the last few years, finding its way from simple red/green panel indicator applications into mainstream consumer markets such as video technology and lighting.

cabin crew training mock-up using LED lightingThe Light Emitting Diode (LED) is an efficient semiconductor based light source, which when compared against older technologies can offer many benefits over conventional incandescent lamps (light bulbs). Today's modern aircraft utilise LED's both as a control panel status indicators or more recognisably for cabin crew and passengers, for illumination purposes.

Today's modern LED technologies offer both low power (for energy efficient operation and cost reduction) as well as long life (for reduced downtime and maintenance). It is for this reason all of the training simulations produced by Cabin Crew Safety utilise modern energy efficient LED lighting, which not only reduces operating costs of training equipment but reduces their downtime due to failure and maintenance. This can increase the overall efficiency of the training mock-ups and a customers training maintenance budget.

While LED lighting is fitted as standard into all Cabin Crew Safety manufactured equipment but LED technology can be retro-fitted into existing crew training equipment. Recent upgrades to existing CEET, CST and DT equipment has included:

  • Upgraded training cabin and cockpit door LED threshold lighting
  • Upgraded training cabin emergency LED illumination
  • Utilisation of LED technology for aircraft cabin downwash applications
  • Conversion of passenger no smoking and fasten seatbelts signs
  • General aircraft training cabin illumination

The use of LED technology for aircraft cabins has also seen many more modern passenger aircraft move towards this area. This is not limited to passenger comfort illumination but even to the emergency exit signage within the cabins.

Items such as LED powered cabin evacuation signs are available from the Cabin Crew Safety online cabin crew training store.
